FAQs

Who are JRM Products?

JRM Products Limited is one of the world’s leading providers of hop-derived products, founded in 1993 with deep roots in the brewing industry. We operate from our custom-built facility near Edinburgh, Scotland, where we produce high-quality hop extracts and related products for brewers worldwide.

What are Liquid Hops?

Liquid hop extracts are concentrated forms of hops that are used in larger production runs of global breweries. They are made by taking raw hops (usually in pellet form) and processing these to separate the oils or aroma compounds, and alpha acids or "bittering compounds", from the leafy vegetative matter.

Why use Liquid Hop Extracts?

Hops are harvested once annually and farmers begin a race against the clock to preserve the quality for the year ahead. It is very important that the hops are dried and packed carefully and quickly, in order to preserve their quality and flavour.

Whole hops can deteriorate rapidly from the moment they are picked, so most farmers and merchants will dry and pelletise their hops to preserve the yield and quality.

Hop pellets can be extracted using supercritical CO2 to further enhance the shelf-life and protect the quality of the hops long term. After these extractions are performed the products yielded offer a number of benefits to the end user. This process also isolates desired valuable brewing component in each hop from the unwanted components.

What are the advantages of using Hop Extracts?

Liquid hop extracts improve production efficiency, are easier to use, and offer better accuracy and consistency in flavor. Some of our range also enhance product stability, make beer more resistant to sunlight, and contribute to better foam retention in the final product. Additionally, they can reduce transport and storage costs - and contribute significantly to a lower carbon footprint per pint.
